Spider-Man Showrunner Defends Hudson Thames Amid ‘Woke’ Controversy

Hudson Thames, the actor who plays Peter Parker in Disney Plus’s animated series “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man,” has faced backlash after making comments about the show being too “woke.” However, showrunner Jeff Trammell has come to his defense.

In a recent Reddit Ask Me Anything (AMA) thread, Trammell addressed Thames’ concerns, stating that he believes the actor simply misspoke. Trammell praised the show’s writing and its ability to appeal to a wide audience.

Thames had previously expressed his fears about the show being too “woke” during an interview with Collider. However, after watching the series, he found it to be well-written and relatable. The show features a diverse cast, including Colman Domingo as Norman Osborn and Kari Wahlgren as Aunt May.

Despite the controversy, the animated series has been renewed for two more seasons, ensuring fans will get to see more of Peter Parker’s adventures on Disney Plus.
