Thousands of Costco Workers Set to Strike Amid Contract Negotiations

Costco employees in Washington, California, New Jersey, New York, and Maryland are set to strike at midnight amid contract negotiations with the retail giant. The Teamsters union, representing over 18,000 workers, is seeking an industry-leading contract that reflects Costco’s massive profits.

The company has proposed raises for non-union locations, including hourly pay increases of $30 per hour for top-tier employees and smaller raises for lower-paid workers. However, union leaders argue that the offer does not meet their demands.

Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien stated, “Costco has two choices: respect the workers who made them a success or face a national strike.” The union’s actions are expected to have significant impacts on Costco operations in southwest Washington and potentially nationwide.
