The Detroit Lions have lost their passing game coordinator, Tanner Engstrand, who has agreed to join the New York Jets as their new offensive coordinator. This comes after former Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn took on a similar role with the Jets.
Engstrand’s departure is a significant loss for the Lions, who had high hopes for him as a potential successor to Ben Johnson, who left to become the Chicago Bears’ head coach. The team has since hired former Stanford head coach David Shaw as their new pass game coordinator.
Lions coach Dan Campbell praised Engstrand’s growth and vision over the past three years, saying he saw significant improvements in his gameplan and execution. The Lions have also lost other key coaches to other jobs this offseason, including assistant QB coach J.T. Barrett and WR coach Antwaan Randle El.
However, the team has made some new hires, including offensive coordinator John Morton and pass game coordinator David Shaw.
