Ancelotti Blames VAR for Inexplicable Espanyol Win Over Real Madrid

Carlo Ancelotti expressed his frustration with the refereeing decision that allowed Espanyol’s Carlos Romero to score a dramatic 1-0 win over Real Madrid. The defender was given a yellow card for a foul on Kylian Mbappé in the 61st minute, but Romero went on to score the only goal of the game.

Ancelotti described the decision as “inexplicable” and stated that he did not understand why Romero’s challenge was not deemed serious enough to warrant a red card. The Real Madrid coach also expressed disappointment with another refereeing decision that denied his team a goal in the first half.

Romero later apologized for his challenge on Mbappé, stating that he had tried to stop the speedy forward but ultimately failed. Espanyol’s coach, Manolo González, downplayed Romero’s intentions, saying that the defender was simply trying to win the ball back.

The loss leaves Real Madrid just one point clear of rivals Atlético Madrid at the top of LaLiga table. The team is already dealing with injuries to key players Antonio Rüdiger and Dani Carvajal, which will be compounded by a busy schedule ahead.
