President Donald Trump’s push to scale back federal diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives has led to a significant backlash. Despite Trump’s executive order ending federal DEI programs and his criticism of DEI initiatives at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), these companies remain committed to their diversity efforts.
Apple’s board urged shareholders to reject a proposal to end its DEI programs, citing the move as “unnecessary.” Costco’s directors unanimously opposed a report on the risks associated with maintaining its DEI initiatives and shareholders rejected the measure. Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon defended his bank’s DEI policies, stating that diverse perspectives are beneficial for businesses.
JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon also rejected anti-DEI proposals, saying “Bring them on” and expressing his commitment to reaching out to underrepresented communities. Microsoft doubled down on its diversity and inclusion efforts in its recent report, with Chief Diversity Officer Lindsay-Rae McIntyre emphasizing the importance of DEI work.
These companies are bucking the trend set by Trump’s administration and demonstrating that they will not be swayed by pushback from conservative groups or customers. Their commitment to DEI reflects their recognition of the value it brings to businesses and society as a whole.
