Texas Tech Upsets No. 6 Houston 82-81 in Thrilling Overtime

Texas Tech athletic director Kirby Hocutt expressed his disappointment after a player’s ejection cost his team an upset win over No. 6 Houston. JT Toppin was tossed from the game in the first half for making contact with Joseph Tugler’s groin area, which officials deemed not accidental and thus an automatic flagrant 2 foul. Coach Grant McCasland also got ejected after protesting the call.

The ejection sparked Hocutt’s frustration, but his team managed to secure the win 82-81 in overtime. Despite a field goal drought in the second half, Texas Tech forced overtime on a three-pointer and eventually took the lead for good. The Red Raiders’ victory snapped Houston’s undefeated run atop the Big 12 conference.

In related news, the game saw several other incidents of controversy, including J’Wan Roberts missing a potential game-winning shot and Chance McMillian making clutch foul shots to seal the win.
