Michigan State basketball suffered its first conference loss of the season, falling 70-64 to USC at Galen Center on Saturday. The Spartans, led by Tom Izzo, had a chance to tie him for all-time wins with his current record-holding coach, John Beilein.
The Trojans’ strong defensive performance limited MSU’s offense, and the Spartans were unable to recover after trailing 35-32 at halftime. Despite a late surge that cut the deficit to five points, USC outlasted Michigan State.
Izzo said he is not disappointed with his team’s performance and instead focused on learning from their mistakes. The loss means MSU must regroup and focus for its upcoming game against UCLA, where Izzo will have another chance to tie Beilein’s record if the Spartans can come out on top.
