Keith Siegel, a 51-day captive of Hamas, described his ordeal in tunnels under the city and civilian apartments, where he was locked in rooms hidden from visitors. He received little food, often eating meat to survive despite being a vegetarian.
Ofer Kalderon and Yarden Bibas, also held for weeks in cages with physical and mental abuse, shared their experiences. Ofer reportedly asked for a beer upon release but was told it was not possible due to his condition.
Aviva Siegel, Keith’s wife, described the psychological torture she endured during her 51 days in captivity. Her captors regularly spoke about her husband and children, claiming they had been killed. Aviva has spent a year fighting for her husband’s release and became an advocate for female hostages still held by Hamas.
The couple’s physical and emotional scars will take time to heal as Keith returns home. Israeli officials continue negotiations to secure the return of other hostages. The government has vowed to intensify its efforts to ensure no Israeli citizen remains in Hamas captivity.
