A Russian strike on a residential building in central Ukraine killed at least 14 people, including two children, on Saturday morning. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky described the attack as “another terrorist crime.” The victims included Olena Yavorska, her husband Dmytro, and their 9-year-old daughter Sofia.
Emergency services and psychologists are providing help to nearly 200 people affected by the strike, which is part of a larger wave of attacks across Ukraine this weekend. Meanwhile, Ukraine and Russia have traded blame over another deadly strike on a former boarding school in Russia’s Kursk region. The Ukrainian military accused Russia of carrying out a war crime, while the Russian military blamed Ukraine.
The incident follows a recent surge in drone attacks by Russia, with Ukraine’s air force downing 40 out of 55 drones launched across the country. Ukrainian energy infrastructure was also targeted in multiple regions on February 1.
