The new film “Dog Man” opens in theaters nationwide on Friday, starring the voices of Lil Rel Howery, Pete Davidson, Isla Fisher, and Ricky Gervais. However, there is no end-credits or post-credits scene to suggest that the adventures of Dog Man will continue.
Unlike other animated films, Dog Man does not feature a post-credits scene or teaser for a potential sequel. Instead, the credits include visuals such as sketches of characters from Dav Pilkey’s graphic novels and some interactive elements.
The success of “Dog Man” will largely depend on its box office performance. With a projected opening weekend of $25 million to $30 million against a production budget of $40 million, the future of the film franchise depends on how well it performs commercially. If successful, Universal and DreamWorks may consider making another film based on Pilkey’s popular canine-man hybrid character.
It is worth noting that the success of “Captain Underpants: The Epic First Movie” in 2017, which made $126 million globally against a production budget of $38 million, could be an indicator of potential future success for Dog Man. However, unlike Captain Underpants, there was no sequel produced despite its commercial success.
Dog Man is the big-screen adaptation of Pilkey’s popular graphic novel series, which has over 13 novels and has been well-received by audiences.
