Blue Ridge Beef Recalls Pet Food Due to Salmonella Risk

A pet food brand, Blue Ridge Beef, is recalling 5,700 pounds of its Natural Mix product due to contamination with the bacteria salmonella. The recall affects products sold between January 3 and January 24 in states including Virginia, Rhode Island, Tennessee, New York, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and Maryland.

The contaminated product is the 2-pound log of Natural Mix with a specific Lot number (N25/12/31) and UPC code (854298001054). Blue Ridge Beef has urged consumers to return the recalled products or destroy them safely, avoiding contact with pets, children, and wildlife.

Symptoms of salmonella in humans include nausea, abdominal cramps, vomiting, and diarrhea, while in pets, they may include lethargy, diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. The company advises washing hands thoroughly after handling the product, sanitizing food bowls and storage containers, and contacting their healthcare providers or veterinarians if symptoms occur.
