Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra Falls Short on Durability

Samsung’s Galaxy S24 Ultra set a high standard for durability just last year, but the new S25 Ultra model is taking a step backward in several key areas.

In JerryRigEverything’s latest test, the phone’s screen was found to be more prone to scratches and its camera rings were shown to pop off with ease. The screen toughness enhancements that debuted last year have seemingly vanished, leaving buyers vulnerable to damage. A scratch at level 6 on the Mohs scale of hardness is concerning, especially when compared to the S24 Ultra’s level 7.

Furthermore, the phone’s camera rings are not flush with the back of the phone as they were on the previous model, making them a slightly unnecessary aesthetic touch that can be easily damaged. The metal camera rings popped off with a little help from a knife, raising questions about the build quality of this flagship smartphone.

The S Pen has also taken a hit, with Samsung removing Bluetooth functionality and eliminating Air Gestures and remote camera trigger capabilities. The phone’s titanium frame still scratches with ease, but the bend test showed that it can withstand significant force without sustaining damage.

Despite these drawbacks, the S25 Ultra remains one of the toughest smartphones available, making it worth considering for those who value durability above all else. However, buyers may want to opt for a good screen protector to mitigate some of the risks associated with this new model’s design choices.
