King Soopers Workers to Go on 2-Week Strike Over Unfair Labor Practices

King Soopers workers at 77 Front Range stores are set to walk out starting Thursday, embarking on a two-week strike over unfair labor practices. The strike will involve 10,000 employees and affects stores in six counties and several cities.

The union, UFCW Local 7, claims the company’s latest offer was inadequate, only boosting pay for some workers, not all. The union also says King Soopers hasn’t addressed staffing shortages or worker safety concerns. The company has filed its own unfair labor practice charges against the union for disrupting negotiations and rejecting offers without providing counter proposals.

The strike follows months of failed negotiations, with the company’s offer expiring January 31. Workers in Pueblo and Colorado Springs are not part of this week’s strike but could join later. UFCW represents over 12,000 King Soopers employees in Colorado, including some outside the Denver metro area. The two-week walkout is longer than a similar nine-day strike in 2022.
