NFL commissioner Roger Goodell dismissed the notion that officials are biased toward certain teams, calling it “ridiculous.” In his state of the league address, he emphasized the importance of officiating and praised the skill of NFL referees.
Goodell pointed to the Kansas City Chiefs’ competitiveness this season, noting that 11 of their 17 games were decided by one score. He credited replay assist with helping improve officiating accuracy.
On other topics, Goodell discussed the league’s response to a sexual misconduct allegation against Baltimore Ravens kicker Justin Tucker and expressed openness to an 18-game regular-season schedule. He also mentioned potential international expansion and playing a Super Bowl outside the United States, citing New Orleans as a successful example of hosting the big game.
Goodell stressed that any changes to the NFL’s rules or policies would need to ensure fairness and avoid conflicts of interest. The league is exploring ways to improve officiating, including technology-enhanced solutions like replay assist.
