Microsoft Set to Remove Free VPN Feature from Microsoft 365

Microsoft is set to remove its free VPN feature from Microsoft 365 on February 28th, according to a support note. The VPN was initially designed as a privacy protection feature, but its limited usage and effectiveness led the company to discontinue it.

The removal of the VPN comes just weeks after Microsoft raised subscription prices for the first time in 12 years. The updated pricing includes an extra $3 monthly fee, although subscribers can downgrade to a classic plan without AI features at the same price as Personal or Family subscriptions.

While Microsoft 365 subscribers will still receive identity theft and credit monitoring services in the US, they will no longer have access to this VPN feature. The company cited a lack of usage and effectiveness as the reason for its decision, citing its limited data allowance and regional restrictions that made it difficult to use the VPN for its intended purpose.
