A new “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” sequel series is reportedly nearing a pilot order at Hulu, with Sarah Michelle Gellar set to reprise her iconic role in a recurring capacity.
The untitled project, which will focus on a new Slayer character, is being written and showrun by Nora Zuckerman and Lila Zuckerman, with ChloƩ Zhao attached as director and executive producer. Gellar will also executive produce alongside other familiar faces from the original series.
While Joss Whedon, creator of the original series, was not involved in the creative team, it’s worth noting that his departure from the project comes after allegations of a toxic work environment on both “Buffy” and its spinoff “Angel.”
The new series would be Hulu’s latest revival to find a home, following recent pilot orders for a reboot of “Prison Break” and a new installment of “King of the Hill.” Fans have long expressed their desire for more stories featuring the beloved characters from the original series, making this development exciting news.
No further details on the project are available at this time.
