Google has reversed its recent change to the Android Auto version of Google Maps after users expressed frustration over a limited screen space issue on many devices. The update had centered the vehicle icon, obscuring parts of the map near the vehicle symbol, and caused a commotion among drivers.
The problem arose due to the small size of Android Auto-enabled head units, which resulted in the destinations menu taking up too much screen space. Google has since reverted to its previous design, placing the vehicle icon on the side of the screen as it was before.
However, the real issue behind the update remains unresolved. The suggested destinations box linked to the search bar is still opaque, and users are calling for more customization options or decluttering tools to address this problem. Google could consider offering decluttering options or giving users the option to choose between layouts or customize the screen.
Google’s user base size means that feedback can spread quickly, and in this case, it led to a widespread outcry among Android Auto fans. The company has taken notice of the issue and is rolling back the change as part of its effort to address user concerns.
