Cleveland Browns edge rusher Myles Garrett, a six-time All-Pro, has officially requested a trade. The NFL’s Defensive Player of the Year in 2023, Garrett is considered a generational talent and still in his prime despite turning 29.
The Green Bay Packers are among the teams being mentioned as potential suitors for Garrett. NFL Media’s Eric Edholm and USA Today’s Jacob Camenker have identified the Packers as top landing spots, citing their need for pass-rushing help after a disappointing 2024 season. A trade for Garrett would make the Packers a Super Bowl contender in 2025.
However, there are hurdles to overcome. The Browns would need to be open to trading one of their best players, and a deal involving multiple first-round picks could be costly. Additionally, the Packers would need to give Garrett a market-resetting contract at edge rusher.
The idea is tantalizing, but unlikely. The Packers rarely pull off blockbuster trades featuring veteran players and significant draft capital. Completing a trade for Garrett in 2025 would be as surprising as the Packers landing Reggie White in 1993, when he signed as a highly coveted free agent.
