Apple’s M-series MacBooks can turn on automatically when opened or plugged in, a feature that may be convenient for some but inconvenient for others. With the release of macOS Sequoia, users now have the option to adjust this setting.
To disable automatic startup, users need to access the Terminal app and enter specific commands. The correct command to type depends on the desired outcome:
* To open the MacBook without it turning on: sudo nvram BootPreference=%00
* To connect to power without the laptop turning on: sudo nvram BootPreference=%02
* To only stop the MacBook from turning on when opening it: sudo nvram BootPreference=%01
After entering the command and pressing Return, users must enter their password. Once the password is entered, the feature is changed.
To reset the setting to its default function, users can launch Terminal and enter sudo nvram -d BootPreference, then press Return. This will restore the MacBook’s automatic startup behavior.
