Apple Criticizes EU Rules Allowing iPhone Porn App Downloads

Apple has publicly criticized a new adult content app available in the European Union through alternative app stores, citing concerns over consumer safety and trust. The app, Hot Tub, is described as an adult content browser, but Apple claims it would “undermine consumer confidence” if made widely available.

Under EU regulations, known as the Digital Markets Act (DMA), Big Tech companies are forced to open up their services to more competition, allowing users to download apps from alternative stores. AltStore PAL, a marketplace developer, claims Hot Tub is an “Apple-approved porn app,” but Apple disputes this description, saying it would not approve such content.

The DMA rules also require app makers to undergo a certification process, which Apple says does not imply endorsement by the company. However, AltStore and Epic Games, a rival tech giant, disagree, claiming Apple is using safety concerns as a pretext to maintain its monopoly power.

Apple has long criticized the new regulations, saying they expose Europeans to unsavory services like pornography and other content it prohibits in its App Store. The European Commission has not commented on the matter.
