Cubs Acquire Ryan Brasier in Trade with Dodgers

The Chicago Cubs have acquired right-handed reliever Ryan Brasier from the Los Angeles Dodgers in a trade. The deal adds depth to the Cubs’ bullpen, which has been strengthened with recent additions. In return, the Dodgers received a player to be named later or cash.

Brasier, 37, was designated for assignment by the Dodgers after they acquired two closers, Kirby Yates and Tanner Scott. However, he still had a solid postseason, posting a 3.54 ERA in 28 regular-season innings.

The Cubs’ bolstered bullpen now includes Brasier, along with Ryan Pressly, who joined the team from Houston. Other new additions include Eli Morgan and Caleb Thielbar, among several other right-handers vying for spots.

Brasier will join the group on a $4.5 million contract in his second season under a two-year deal. The Cubs’ bullpen is expected to have strong competition for spots when spring training begins next week.
