Trump to Attend Super Bowl LIX, First Sitting President to Do So

US President Donald Trump plans to attend Super Bowl LIX between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles in New Orleans on Sunday, making him the first sitting US president to do so. The visit has increased security measures following a terror attack on Bourbon Street early this year.

Trump’s appearance at the Caesars Superdome will also make him the first US president to sit for an interview with Fox News during a Super Bowl pregame show. The interview, scheduled for 3 p.m ET, will be taped at Trump’s estate and marks the first time in three years that a US president has agreed to network interview coverage.

Previously, only sitting vice presidents have attended the Super Bowl. In 1994, Al Gore visited Atlanta’s Georgia Dome, while George H.W. Bush was at the Pontiac Silverdome in Michigan in 1982. Spiro Agnew attended the game in Miami’s Orange Bowl in 1971.

Trump’s participation adds to the excitement of the event and raises questions about his involvement in high-profile public events despite facing security threats.
