Google Unveils Gemini 2.0 AI Models for Everyone

Google has released its most powerful artificial intelligence model suite, Gemini 2.0, to the general public. The move marks a significant step in Google’s virtual agent push and comes as other tech giants and startups also invest heavily in “AI agents” that can complete complex tasks on behalf of users.

Gemini 2.0 includes three models: Flash, Pro Experimental, and Flash-Lite, each designed for specific use cases. The suite is now available to developers at a cost of $10 million per million tokens, with the most affordable version, Flash-Lite, priced at just 7.5 cents per token.

The release of Gemini 2.0 follows Google’s December announcement that it would introduce several AI features in 2025, including a research assistant tool called Deep Research. The company has also been investing heavily in developing more “agentic” models, which can understand the world around users and take action on their behalf with supervision.

Other tech giants, including Meta, Amazon, Microsoft, OpenAI, and Anthropic, are also working towards developing AI agents that can complete complex tasks without human intervention. Anthropic’s AI agents have been shown to be capable of using computers like humans, while OpenAI has introduced features such as Operator, which automates tasks like planning vacations and making restaurant reservations.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai stated in a strategy meeting that the focus for 2025 is on executing well and being the best in class, rather than always being first. The release of Gemini 2.0 marks a significant step towards achieving this goal and positioning Google as a leader in the development of AI agents.
