GIMP 3.0 RC1 Released for Testing and Feedback

GIMP, a free software alternative to Adobe Photoshop, has reached the release candidate phase of development with the release of GIMP 3.0 RC1. After years of development, this GTK3-upgraded image editor promises significant improvements and new features.

As of yesterday, GIMP 3.0 RC1 was tagged, marking the beginning of a new era for the software. Although no official announcement has been made yet, users can access the release candidate through GIMP’s Git repository with the GIMP_3_0_0_RC1 tag.

GIMP 3.0 brings numerous enhancements and features built over years of development, all underpinned by the GTK3 toolkit. The software is expected to become stable soon, but the final release date has yet to be confirmed.

The GIMP project has recently published its 3.0-RC1 announcement, detailing plans for future updates, including a potential release of GIMP 3.2 within one year of GIMP 3.0. With this milestone reached, users can now provide feedback and test the software before it becomes fully stable.
