Jon Batiste will sing the national anthem at the 2025 Super Bowl in New Orleans. The Academy and Grammy Award-winning artist is making his first appearance as a performer at the iconic event.
Born in Metairie, Louisiana, Batiste grew up in the New Orleans suburb of Kenner. He comes from a musical family with dozens of notable musicians. His music career began by playing drums with his family band before switching to piano as a teenager.
Batiste attended Juilliard School and formed a band called “Stay Human” while there. The band performed as the house band on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” starting in 2015. He has released six studio albums, including “We Are,” which won Album of the Year and Best R&B Album at the 2022 Grammy Awards.
Batiste’s other notable work includes co-composing the score for the Pixar animated movie “Soul” in 2020. He won an Academy Award, a Grammy Award, and a Golden Globe for his work on the film. The NFL has chosen artists with ties to New Orleans and Louisiana for the 2025 Super Bowl lineup, including fellow Louisiana natives Lauren Daigle, Trombone Shorty, and Ledisi.
The performers scheduled for Super Bowl 59 include Batiste performing the national anthem, Lauren Daigle and Trombone Shorty singing “America The Beautiful,” Ledisi singing “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” and Kendrick Lamar with guest SZA during the halftime show.
