Brian Kelly Denies Neglect Accusations by Greg Brooks’ Father

LSU head coach Brian Kelly has denied allegations of neglect made by the father of former player Greg Brooks Jr. Brooks filed a lawsuit against LSU, Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, and other staff members, claiming that the school’s coaching staff encouraged him to practice despite not feeling well due to a brain tumor, and that the training staff failed to provide proper treatment and diagnosis before he had surgery.

In an interview on ABC’s “Good Morning America,” Brooks Sr. expressed frustration with Kelly, saying that he almost lost his life as a coach who supposedly cared about his son. Kelly responded in a news conference, stating that it was “factually incorrect” for Brooks Sr. to say that Kelly was not part of Greg Brooks Jr.’s care and support.

Kelly emphasized that he is committed to the well-being of LSU players, both on and off the field. He said that the comment struck him personally and highlighted the importance of supporting players in need. The lawsuit names several individuals, including Kelly, doctors at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, and other LSU staff members.

Brooks Jr., who uses a wheelchair after surgery, has had to relearn how to talk and use his hands. He played for LSU from 2020 to 2022 and was named a team captain before being forced out of games due to health issues.
