Many websites experienced disruptions yesterday due to a widespread issue affecting hundreds of thousands of users worldwide. The problem occurred when the majority of Internet users simultaneously tried to access several popular sites at once, triggering an excessive number of requests.
This was caused by a technical glitch that overwhelmed the servers, leading to the infamous ‘429 Too Many Requests’ error message displayed on affected websites. However, within hours of noticing the issue, developers rapidly worked to resolve it by implementing solutions that prevented future occurrences.
One such fix involves using a technique called rate limiting, which restricts the number of requests an IP address can send to a server over a given time frame. The solution also limits concurrent access to shared resources.
