Ridley Scott, the founder of 20th Century Studios and director of the original Alien film, has confirmed plans to produce a sequel to his recently released movie Alien: Romulus. The Hollywood Reporter initially reported that Scott was working on a new Alien project in response to Romulus’s success, but now it appears he had intended for it to be a follow-up to his 2017 film Alien: Covenant.
Scott believes that Covenant is the best choice for a sequel due to its setup, which leaves David, a character introduced in Prometheus and Alien: Covenant, with alien eggs and 2,000 colonists on the cusp of landing on a new planet. The director thinks this creates an ideal starting point for a new film.
Scott’s production company, Scott Free, has a strong stake in continuing to be involved in any future projects related to his legacy titles, including Alien and Blade Runner. This is evident in their involvement with the upcoming TV series Alien: Earth and the Prime Video series Blade Runner 2099.
While opinions on the best choice for an Alien sequel may vary, Ridley Scott’s plan for a follow-up to Covenant has gained traction, with the setup providing a compelling foundation for a new story. As Scott continues to take ownership of his franchises, fans will be eager to see how these plans unfold.
