Trump’s Gaza Plan Sparks Global Outrage and Rejection

US President Donald Trump’s proposal for the US to take over Gaza and resettle its 2.1 million Palestinians has been met with widespread international condemnation, rejection, and alarm.

The Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas strongly rejected the plan, saying it would “violate our people’s rights” and that Gaza is an integral part of the State of Palestine. Hamas also rejected the proposal, calling it “aggressive” and warning that it would only fuel more conflict in the region.

Major Arab states such as Jordan, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia have also rejected the plan, with Saudi Arabia stating it would not establish normal ties with Israel without a Palestinian state. The US has clarified its position, saying President Trump is committed to rebuilding Gaza but does not intend to send troops.

The UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed concern that the proposal could lead to “ethnic cleansing” and warned against any form of forced displacement. Western governments, including France and the UK, have also criticized the plan as a serious violation of international law.

Palestinians in Gaza are deeply divided on the issue, with some expressing shock and defiance at the idea of leaving their homes, while others fear a repeat of the 1948 Nakba, or catastrophe, when hundreds of thousands were forced to flee. The US proposal has sparked intense debate and outrage globally, highlighting the ongoing challenges in achieving peace and stability in the Middle East.

The international community is now left to weigh its response to the US plan, with many calling for a peaceful resolution that respects the rights and aspirations of all parties involved.
