Amarillo doctor urges precautions as flu cases rise in Texas Panhandle. The region is seeing a significant spike in Influenza A cases, leading to high absence rates among students and staff.
According to the CDC, seasonal influenza activity remains elevated across the country. Dr. Todd Bell, a pediatrician at Texas Tech Physicians, warns that certain individuals are more susceptible to severe respiratory issues due to pre-existing medical conditions like diabetes, emphysema, or asthma.
Those with weakened immune systems, including patients with chronic lung disease and older adults, are particularly vulnerable. To prevent the spread of the flu, Dr. Bell advises frequent handwashing, covering coughs and sneezes, and staying home when sick.
