Avian Flu Outbreak Closes Westchester County Park

A park in Westchester County, New York, has been closed to visitors due to concerns over avian flu after a dozen dead Canada geese were discovered in a pond. The birds were removed and taken for testing by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.

The closure is part of efforts to prevent the spread of disease among park-goers. Officials say that with the growing number of avian flu cases nationwide, it’s essential to take precautions when interacting with dead birds.

Town Supervisor Carl Fulgenzi emphasized the need for clarity on test results before allowing visitors back into the park. “We’re doing whatever we can to make sure we get the answers before we allow people to go back,” he said.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is using a laser device to deter geese from landing in the pond until further notice. The situation highlights the growing concern over avian flu cases in the region, and officials are urging people not to approach dead birds.
