Trump Jr. Accused of Breaking EU Environmental Laws in Italy

Donald Trump Jr., the eldest son of US President Donald Trump, has been accused of breaking Italian and European Union environmental protection laws while duck hunting near Venice in December.

Two Italian Green party lawmakers, Andrea Zanoni and Luana Zanella, have filed parliamentary questions urging regional and national authorities to take action against the alleged offence. They claim to have seen footage showing Trump Jr. standing near a dead ruddy shelduck, a protected species, in a “Natura 2000” EU conservation zone.

Hunting is legal in Italy but strictly regulated. According to Zanoni, the killing or holding of the rare and protected ruddy shelduck is punishable by law. Trump Jr.’s hunting trip was promoted by Field Ethos, an outdoors activities brand he co-founded.

The incident has been reported to Environment Minister Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, who is waiting for a report about the alleged incident. A video of the hunt shows Trump Jr. describing his spoils and commenting on the rarity of the duck species. The incident has sparked controversy, with many calling for action against those who break environmental laws.

Despite the allegations, there were no immediate responses from Trump Jr. or Field Ethos when contacted by Reuters.
