Leyton Orient’s Jamie Donley scored a stunning goal in the FA Cup fourth-round tie against Premier League champions Manchester City, securing a 2-1 win for the League One side. The 20-year-old Tottenham loanee seized on a loose ball after Nico Gonzalez was stripped of possession just inside the City half and executed a brilliant 50-yard chip that sailed over goalkeeper Stefan Ortega.
The goal is being hailed as one of the greatest FA Cup goals, with former Arsenal defender Martin Keown saying it’s “the strike of a lifetime.” Donley’s teammate, Chris Sutton, described it as “sensational” and praised the youngster’s skill. Even Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola was full of admiration for the goal, calling it “what a fantastic shot.”
Donley had previously scored five goals this season, but none compare to this remarkable strike. The Tottenham loanee has made his senior debut for City before, coming on as a substitute in December 2023. However, his performance against Manchester City will likely do little to persuade the Premier League side to re-sign him after his initial loan spell.
Leyton Orient boss Richie Wellens described Donley’s goal as “not deserved,” but praised the youngster’s effort and work ethic. The team is currently ninth in League One, making promotion a key objective for next season. If they achieve this, there may be a chance to lure Donley back from Tottenham.
