Boxing Promoter Mark Dunlop Announces Tragic Death of John Cooney

Irish boxer John Cooney, the current Celtic super-featherweight title holder, has died a week after suffering an intracranial hemorrhage following his recent defeat to Nathan Howells in Belfast. He was 28 years old.

Cooney’s fight with Howells ended in the ninth round and required surgery for the injury. Despite efforts from the medical staff at Belfast’s Royal Victoria Hospital, Cooney passed away on Saturday, leaving behind a loving family and fiancĂ©e Emmaleen.
