Former Browns Defensive Coordinator Dick Jauron Dies at 74

Dick Jauron, the former defensive coordinator for the Cleveland Browns during the 2011 and 2012 seasons, has passed away at 74. His daughter Kacy shared the news on Facebook, stating that her father had died after being diagnosed with cancer.

Jauron spent several years in the NFL as both a player and coach, earning a Pro Bowl nod in 1974 while playing for the Detroit Lions. He worked his way up the coaching ranks before taking the head coaching gig in Chicago from 1999-2003, where he won AP NFL Coach of the Year in 2001.

As defensive coordinator in Detroit from 2005, Jauron took over after coach Steve Mariucci was fired and coached the final five games. He then held the head coaching position in Buffalo from 2006-09 before being fired halfway through the season.

Jauron’s tenure with the Browns saw mixed results, as the team finished 4-12 in 2011 and 5-11 in 2012. However, his defensive units were highly ranked during both seasons, earning recognition for their performance despite some areas of struggle.

The NFL community is mourning the loss of Jauron, who left a lasting impact on football through his coaching career.
