Anthony Davis is set to make his Dallas Mavericks debut on Saturday against the Houston Rockets, aiming to “give life back” to fans who were shocked by the stunning trade that sent star player Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers.
Davis, along with Max Christie and Caleb Martin, was introduced at a press conference after being acquired by the Mavericks in exchange for Dončić. The veteran forward acknowledged the shock among fans but emphasized his commitment to performing well and winning games.
“I’m gonna give the city life back,” Davis said. “I get who Luka was to this franchise, but I’m here now and I’ll do my job.”
Davis will return from an abdominal injury that has sidelined him since January 28. He will face off against the Rockets in his debut game on Saturday.
Newcomer Max Christie, who has played two games with the Mavericks, praised the team’s culture, saying “everybody is super together” and “feels like a big family.” Caleb Martin also expressed his excitement to join the team, citing the style of play and the potential of their pieces as reasons for optimism.
The Mavericks will host the Rockets at 3 p.m. ET on Saturday, starting a five-game homestand.
