Tina Clay Sworn In as New Ward 2 Council Member

Tina Clay has been sworn in as the newest member of Jackson City Council’s Ward 2, following former councilwoman Angelique Lee’s resignation and guilty plea to a federal bribery charge. The grand jury indictment of Aaron Banks, a fellow councilmember, has further shaken the city’s government.

Clay, who beat opponent Marcus Cheatum in an October runoff election, will serve out the remainder of Lee’s term until next year. During her swearing-in ceremony, she expressed her motivation for running, stating that God led her to take on the role. Several elected officials, including Mississippi Senator John Horhn and Mayor Chokwe A. Lumumba, attended the event.

Lumumba welcomed Clay as a friend, praising her intelligence, capability, and sincerity. With Clay’s swearing-in, Jackson City Council now has a complete seven-member body once again, according to President Virgi Lindsay.
