NC Sees Surge in Respiratory Viruses Amid Flu Season Peak

Buncombe County’s Health Department reports an uptick in multiple respiratory viruses, including flu, COVID-19, and RSV. The latest data from the state health department shows a significant increase in flu activity, with 117 deaths reported this season.

The flu is spreading widely across the state, with new cases emerging every week. Young children under two, adults over 65, and those with underlying health conditions are at higher risk of complications. To mitigate this risk, county officials recommend getting vaccinated against flu and other respiratory viruses.

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services has updated its Respiratory Virus Summary Dashboard to reflect the surge in cases. For more information on vaccines, testing, and treatment options, visit Vaccines.gov or the NCDHHS Flu page.
