Rodney E. Hood Named Acting Comptroller of the Currency

The U.S. Department of the Treasury announced today that Rodney E. Hood will become the new Acting Comptroller of the Currency, effective February 10, 2025. Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent designated Mr. Hood to lead the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC). As acting comptroller, Mr. Hood aims to promote a regulatory environment that balances innovation and financial inclusion while ensuring fair access to banking services for all Americans.

Mr. Hood previously served as Chairman of the National Credit Union Administration Board, making him the first African American to lead a federal banking regulatory agency. He has also held senior roles in retail finance, commercial banking, and community development in the private sector. A native of North Carolina, Mr. Hood holds a degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Mr. Hood succeeds Acting Comptroller Michael J. Hsu, who will leave his position on February 10, 2025. The appointment was made pursuant to 12 U.S.C. ยง 4 and comes after Senate confirmation in 2005 and 2019 for his roles on the NCUA Board.
