NJ Food Company Recalls Sesame Paste Due to Salmonella Concerns

A recall has been issued for 858 cases of Aleppo Tahini Sesame Paste sold in 18 states, including Massachusetts, due to potential salmonella contamination. The product, sold in 1-pound plastic jars with a gold lid and lot number 120824-01, was distributed across Alabama, California, Florida, Illinois, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia.

Customers who purchased the affected product are advised not to eat it and return it for a full refund. No illnesses have been reported related to the recalled products as of February 5. However, salmonella infections can cause mild symptoms such as fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain, and can be fatal in vulnerable populations like young children and the elderly.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued this recall due to routine sampling that revealed some finished products contained salmonella. Customers with the affected product should check their lot numbers and expiration dates before consuming it.
