Dunkin’ Doughnuts Recalled Due to Listeria Risk

A nationwide recall has been issued for about two million baked goods produced by FGF Brands, including doughnuts and coffee rolls from Dunkin’, due to potential contamination with the bacteria Listeria monocytogenes. The products were sold at various locations in the US and Canada before December 13, 2024.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) upgraded the recall on Wednesday, categorizing it as a Class II situation, which indicates that use of or exposure to the affected product may cause temporary health consequences. However, no illnesses have been reported related to the recalled baked goods.

FGG Brands attributed the voluntary recall to non-product-related findings at one of its doughnut facilities in the US. The company emphasized that no contaminated doughnuts or surfaces tested positive for listeria and stressed that the recall does not implicate any current or recently released products.

Listeria is a rare but deadly bacteria, responsible for about 260 deaths annually in the US. Symptoms include fever and headaches, with vulnerable groups such as pregnant women, older individuals, newborns, and those with weakened immune systems being at risk of severe illness. The most recent recall related to Listeria occurred in December, when Braga Fresh recalled a single lot of broccoli florets sold at Walmart stores.

As the third leading cause of food-borne death in the US, Listeria poses significant risks, particularly for those who consume contaminated foods. FGF Brands’ proactive measure demonstrates their commitment to ensuring consumer safety and highlights the importance of monitoring food products for potential contamination.
