The United States’ national debt of $36 trillion poses an insurmountable challenge to the country’s sustainability. With each passing second, this number increases by approximately $100,000, resulting in a staggering $323,000 per taxpayer. The situation is dire, and drastic action is necessary.
Over the past 20 years, the nation has settled into a predictable cycle of lamenting the debt and making minor adjustments, only to continue increasing spending as a solution. This approach has led to bureaucratic inefficiency and a lack of genuine reform.
To address this issue, we need an economic equivalent of Ulysses S. Grant, who demonstrated unwavering determination in the face of adversity during the Civil War. Like Grant, policymakers must be willing to make painful decisions and cut unnecessary expenses to tackle the debt.
The recent action against USAID, which funded a play in Ireland about diversity and equity and a transgender comic book in Peru, illustrates this need for decisive action. While some may argue that these programs are essential, others will claim they are indispensable. It is time for policymakers to step up and demand accountability from those who would justify unnecessary spending.
As the fiscal war against national debt continues, we must be prepared for high casualties. However, with the right leadership, we can emerge victorious. We hope that Elon Musk’s unwavering commitment to addressing this issue will serve as a model for future policymakers, pushing for drastic reforms and cuts to unnecessary expenses.
