Google’s latest flagship phone, the Pixel 9 Pro XL, is set to take on Samsung’s S25 Ultra series with its high-resolution cameras and impressive battery life. Despite being larger and heavier than the vanilla S25 model, the Pixel 9 Pro XL boasts a massive advantage in telephoto (48MP 113mm vs. 10MP 67mm) and ultra-wide camera capabilities.
The phone also features official satellite SOS support and UWB connectivity, which sets it apart from the S25 series. Its larger 4,700mAh battery provides a slightly better Active use score of 13:11h compared to the S25 Ultra’s 12:21h.
Compared to the vanilla Pixel 9 model, the Pro XL offers a similar camera setup and chipset but is heavier and larger in size. However, its price remains £150 lower than the Pro model. For those who don’t use zoom frequently, the standard Pixel 9 might be an attractive option due to its lower price point.
On the other hand, Google’s smaller Pixel 8a offers a more affordable option with almost the same weight and display size as the Pixel 9 but at a significantly lower price. The 8a uses the older Tensor G3 chipset, resulting in a slightly worse Active use score.
As for horizontal foldable phones, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold offers impressive cameras and performance despite using an older Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. It’s priced £100 less than the Pixel 9 Pro but still comes with high-end features like a 144Hz refresh rate and fast charging capabilities.
Additionally, Xiaomi’s 14T Pro and Poco X7 series offer competitive options in terms of cameras and performance. The Xiaomi 14T Pro boasts a similar camera setup to the Pixel 9 Pro XL at a lower price point, while the Poco X7 Pro stands out with better water resistance, faster storage, and faster charging capabilities.
