Square Enix’s development team for Dragon Quest 12 is “working hard” on the game, according to series creator Yuji Horii. This marks the first update on the title since May 2024, when Horii paid tribute to late character designer Akira Toriyama and composer Koichi Sugiyama.
Horii’s comments have alleviated concerns among fans that the game might have been canceled due to restructuring at Square Enix and a lack of updates. Dragon Quest 12 was announced as part of the series’ 35th anniversary celebration, with the new title being the first mainline entry since 2017’s Dragon Quest 11: Echoes of an Elusive Age.
Following the release of Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake, which exceeded sales expectations after selling 2 million copies, the future of Dragon Quest 12 remains promising.
