Winn-Dixie Being Sold Again, 220 Stores to Remain Under Aldi

Aldi’s parent company announced on Friday that it is selling its Florida-based supermarket chain Winn-Dixie for the second time in less than a year. However, about 220 stores will remain under Aldi’s ownership. The sale comes after Aldi acquired Southeastern Grocers, Winn-Dixie’s parent company, in March 2024.

As part of the new arrangement, approximately 170 Winn-Dixie and Harveys stores in Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Mississippi will continue to operate under their existing brands, including a liquor store business. The conversion process for the remaining stores is expected to last until 2027.

Aldi’s leadership has stated that they will work closely with Southeastern Grocers’ current CEO, Anthony Hucker, to ensure a smooth transition. Dedicated leaders will oversee the store conversion and hiring process. The remaining stores identified for conversion will continue to operate under normal business conditions until each store is closed for conversion.

The sale solidifies Aldi’s presence in the Southeast region and aligns leadership and ownership for future growth and reinvestment.
