A computer engineer who lost £620m-worth of Bitcoin, believed to be on a hard drive discarded by his ex-girlfriend in 2013, plans to buy the landfill site where he thinks it’s buried. James Howells attempted to sue Newport council for access to the site but his case was dismissed due to insufficient grounds. The landfill is set to close in 2025-26 and has been granted permission for a solar farm on the land. Howells suggests purchasing the site could be an option, as he has discussed it with investment partners. He also plans to appeal against the judge’s decision dismissing his claim.
