WP Engine Tracker Site Temporarily Blocked Over Phishing Concerns

Automattic’s recently launched website, WP Engine Tracker, lists how many WordPress sites have moved away from managed web host WP Engine. The site also recommends alternative web hosts and offers a download of all domains hosted on WP Engine.

However, the site was temporarily blocked by Cloudflare over the weekend due to suspected phishing attempts. Cloudflare issued a warning stating that the website had been reported for potential phishing, which is when a site tries to steal sensitive information by presenting itself as a safe source.

The news sparked excitement among members of the WordPress subreddit, with some speculating that people might be reporting the site for no reason other than to cause trouble. One commenter noted that the website displayed a “403 Forbidden” error message if visitors ignored the warning and clicked through, indicating that the site may not have been maliciously designed.

After a few hours of downtime, Cloudflare removed the phishing block, and the Automattic WP Engine Tracker website was restored. The move has raised questions about trademark infringement and the motivations behind reporting suspected phishing sites.
