AMD’s Ryzen 9000 series has seen an unexpected boom in sales, with many retailers struggling to keep up with demand due to a shortage of the Ryzen 7 9800X3D chips. This surge in popularity can be attributed to Intel’s recent struggles in the gaming CPU market.
Intel’s Core Ultra 200K and 200S “Arrow Lake” chips were launched just weeks prior to AMD’s Ryzen 9000 series, but early reviews were underwhelming. The chips failed to deliver on their promises of high gaming performance, instead performing similarly to last year’s Intel Core 14th Gen “Raptor Lake Refresh” chips.
To make matters worse, Intel has been dealing with a CPU crash scandal involving the 13th and 14th Gen “Raptor Lake” chips. This has led to a class action lawsuit against the company, further damaging its reputation in the gaming market.
As a result, AMD’s Ryzen 9000 series is taking over the market share from Intel in the largest gaming shakeup seen in recent years. The Ryzen 7 9800X3D chipsets offer next-gen gaming performance with an 18-28% boost over the Ryzen 7000 series processors.
While Intel still has several new chipsets planned for release, including the Core Ultra 200H and 200HX “high performance” chipsets, it’s unclear whether these will be enough to turn the tide in their favor. For now, AMD is leading the charge in gaming CPUs, making 2025 a potential year for AMD-powered gaming laptops or PCs.
Intel’s struggles have left many gamers with no choice but to opt for AMD-powered systems, at least until more information becomes available on Intel’s upcoming chipsets.
