Baltic Nations Sever Ties to Russian Power Grid, EU Integration Planned

Baltic nations, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, have cut ties with Russia’s power grid, marking a significant move towards integrating with the European Union’s (EU) grid. The switch is expected to take place on Sunday.

The decision marks an end to Russia’s influence in the region’s energy sector, severing ties that date back to Soviet-era controls. Kaliningrad, a Russian exclave, will now operate independently, without connection to the Russian power grid.

Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is set to attend a ceremony marking the occasion, highlighting the EU’s commitment to strengthening ties with its Eastern European partners.

This development comes as the Baltic nations solidify their position as NATO’s eastern flank and vocal critics of Russia. As the region looks towards closer economic integration, this move demonstrates its determination to break free from historical Soviet-era ties.
