Pa. Governor Signs Bill To Boost Poultry Technician Workforce

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro has signed a bill aimed at curbing the spread of avian influenza. The legislation, House Bill 324, allows residents to become certified poultry technicians by completing a state training course.

The move is intended to boost the workforce in agriculture and support biosecurity measures to prevent the virus. According to Shapiro’s office, the certification will help farm workers acquire necessary skills to test poultry flocks and protect the industry.

Industry leaders praise the bill, saying it addresses a pressing need for personnel with expertise in avian flu testing. The Executive Vice President of Penn Ag Industries, Chris Herr, thanked Governor Shapiro for supporting legislation that will benefit the agriculture sector.
